Chasing the Sunrise: 2-Day Private Mount Sinai & St. Catherine’s Adventure
Overview
Today we begin to climb. Our climb up Mt. Sinai begins in darkness, led by our local Bedouin guide. It will be cold at nighttime. It will be freezing cold at night. Layer up. Honestly. But fear not the freeze. And on the Bedouin trail are these little stone hideouts that dot the way. Helps to duck in one, get a hot cup of tea, or throw on a thick wool blanket. Big time. Walk on. That shiver you were cursing 10 minutes ago? As soon as the sky is purple and gold, it is gone. Clean, forgotten. That alone makes the entire climb worth it.
We will watch the sunrise and then return for a well-earned breakfast before setting off for St. Catherine’s Monastery. This is not just a tourist trail stop; this is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the world’s oldest official Christian monastery. Every corner of the monastery tells a story that has lasted for centuries. You’ll see the Burning Bush and a rare, fascinating mix of history that you can’t find anywhere else.
Tour Plan
We will leave and pick you up at your hotel in a private car. It’s about a 6-7 hour drive, but we make the drive part of the experience. We will drive under the Suez Canal through the Ahmed Hamdi Tunnel and visit Moses’ Wells, a traditional site where Moses is believed to have brought forth springs of water for the Israelites. When we arrive to St. Catherine town, we will help you check in, have a good dinner, and get some rest. You’ll want to be recharged for the morning for sure.

- We are making the most of this quick 2-day/1-night trip. Bring good comfortable hiking shoes and some warm layers of gear; it gets surprisingly chilly at night on the summit even if it's warm down in the valley.
- It’s definitely more of an active climb for the kids, but our local guides are intimately familiar with this mountain and are pros at setting a pace that is right for everyone.
